Mini Biography

Known globally as the “King of Bollywood” and “King Khan,” Shah Rukh Khan stands as one of cinema’s most influential figures. He is an Indian Bollywood movie star, movie producer, magazine model, showman, public speaker, author, philanthropist and television host/personality working predominantly in Hindi cinema.

How it Started

Khan began his acting career by playing a soldier in the Doordarshan series Fauji (1988), a role that garnered him recognition and led to starring roles in more television shows. He had his first film release with the romantic drama Deewana (1992), in which he played a supporting part. Khan subsequently played villainous roles in the 1993 thrillers Baazigar and Darr, box office successes that established his career in Bollywood.

His breakthrough came with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), starring opposite Kajol in Aditya Chopra’s romance that became the longest-running Indian film of all time. This established him as the quintessential romantic hero of Bollywood.

Career Achievements

With eight Filmfare Awards for Best Actor, he shares the record for the most wins in the category with Dilip Kumar. He has appeared in over 100 films and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. He has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India, as well as the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour by the Government of France.

Historic 2023 Comeback

After a four-year hiatus following the commercial failure of Zero (2018), Shah Rukh Khan made a spectacular comeback in 2023. The cumulative box office earnings of his three films are unparalleled at over Rs 2,500 crore.

His 2023 releases included:

  • Pathaan (January): The movie earned Rs 1,055 crore worldwide.
  • Jawan (September): The action movie obliterated box office records he had set with Pathaan, emerging as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the highest-grossing of Khan’s entire career.
  • Dunki (December): Dunki earned approximately ₹427- 470 crores worldwide at the global box office. Combined, Jawan and Pathaan have grossed nearly Rs 2000 crores, making Shah Rukh Khan the only Bollywood actor to deliver two massive blockbusters grossing over Rs 900 crores each in a single calendar year.

Shah Rukh Khan continues to dominate Bollywood with several high-profile projects in development. Shah Rukh is set to feature alongside Salman Khan for their first full-fledged movie since ‘Karan Arjun.’ His upcoming projects include:
