Biography:

Suriya, born Saravanan Sivakumar, is a celebrated Indian actor and producer whose influential career has significantly shaped contemporary Tamil cinema. He is the eldest son of veteran actor Sivakumar and began his career with the film “Nerukku Ner” in 1997.

Suriya initially faced struggles to establish himself, but perseverance led to his breakthrough with the psychological thriller “Nandha” (2001). Subsequent films such as “Kaakha Kaakha” (2003) and “Pithamagan” established him as both a commercial and critical force.

The actor’s versatility is apparent in his wide-ranging roles—from the amnesiac protagonist in “Ghajini” to twin brothers in “Perazhagan,” for which he won his first Filmfare Award. Suriya’s performance in “Vaaranam Aayiram,” portraying a father and son, earned him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film (as a producer) and another Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

His rapid-fire action and charisma in the “Singam” franchise garnered mass appeal, while his dedication to social issues on screen was evident in “Soorarai Pottru” and “Jai Bhim,” both critically acclaimed and internationally recognized. “Soorarai Pottru,” inspired by the life of Air Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath, was nominated for several national and international accolades and won a National Film Award for Best Actor.

Off screen, Suriya manages 2D Entertainment, producing hit films and fostering emerging talent. His charitable endeavors through the Agaram Foundation have focused on educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu.

Suriya’s dedication to addressing social issues, both on and off screen, has won him widespread admiration and made him an inspiring figure in Indian cinema.
